What is Mason Sand used for?

Finely graded, washed masonry sand (0.1–0.5 mm, ASTM C144) for mortar mixing, paver bedding, stucco, and play areas. Screened free of clay and silt.

Mortar & masonry work
Mix with Portland cement to lay brick, block, and stone. ASTM C144-compliant grain produces smooth, workable mortar that bonds tight and finishes clean.
Paver & flagstone bedding
Spread a 1" compacted layer under pavers, patios, and walkways. The fine texture fills voids and holds level — adjustable before final setting.
Sandboxes & play areas
Clean, washed, and non-toxic with low dust and soft texture — safe for children's sandboxes and sensory play installations.
Stucco & plastering
Fine, consistent grain produces smooth, durable stucco and plaster finishes on interior and exterior walls with excellent adhesion.
Pool surrounds & beach areas
Create a comfortable, attractive surface around pools or as an artificial beach feature. Fine texture stays cool underfoot and drains well.
Tuckpointing & joint repair
Re-point deteriorated mortar joints in brick and block masonry. Fine grain flows cleanly into narrow joints and cures to a durable, weather-tight finish.
Not ideal for these applications:
  • Not ideal for structural concrete mixes
  • Not ideal for sandblasting or abrasive work
  • Not ideal for high-drainage systems (use clean gravel)
  • Not ideal for high-traffic driveways
